DIY Hair care using kitchen ingredients [Quarantine Edition]

As we all are locked in our homes and can’t go out or buy anything other than essentials, I thought this is the best time to whip up some DIY hair masks. I know some of you might not have a variety of ingredients to make DIYs but these ones are made using ingredients which are most likely available in our kitchens. I have shared 4 different hair packs to tackle some common hair problems. I hope you find these helpful šŸ™‚

Anti Dandruff Curd Pack

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. Curd
  • 1 tsp. Ginger juice
  • 2 tsp. Mustard oil

Preparation:

To get the fresh ginger juice, grate a 2 inch piece of peeled ginger and just squeeze it with your fingers to get the juice. Then add the rest of the ingredients to it.

Application:

To apply, start from the scalp and cover it completely by sectioning your hair. Massage gently with your fingertips for a few seconds as it will provide gentle exfoliation while also stimulating the scalp. Then whatever’s left you can apply that to the length of your hair to add moisture and shine. Make sure to leave it on for not more than 30 minutes before washing your hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap or a plastic bag after applying the pack for better results.

Hair oil for faster hair growth

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp. Methi Dana aka Fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tbsp. Kalonji aka onion seeds

Preparation:

Heat up the coconut oil in a pan and then add the Fenugreek and Onion seeds in the above mentioned quantity. Let it boil for 10 minutes on low flame. The oil will turn a little darker and that’s when you take it off the flame. Let it cool down for a while and then strain the oil in a glass container. This will last you a few weeks depending on the usage.

Application:

Take out the required quantity of oil in a bowl and warm it up a bit for maximum benefits. Apply on the roots of your hair and massage gently with your fingertips to stimulate the scalp. You can also apply this oil on the dry ends to nourish them. Use it before washing your hair and leave for at least 2 hours or overnight, if possible.

Protein Pack to Stop Hair Breakage

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp. Moong dal (Green or yellow, whichever is available)
  • 1 tbsp. Besan or Chickpea flour
  • 5-6 tbsp. Coconut milk/milk

Preparation:

To make this pack start with soaking the Moong dal in water overnight. The next morning, grind the soaked moong in a grinder with a little bit of water to get a smooth paste. Then add besan and coconut milk or dairy milk (if coconut milk is not available) to this. You can adjust the quantity of milk in order to get a smooth and easy to apply consistency. Mix well and the pack is ready.

Application:

To get the maximum benefits from this protein rich pack, you must apply it everywhere from the roots to the tips of your hair. Leave it on for 45 minutes to an hour and shampoo your hair as usual.

For Dry and Frizzy Hair

Ingredients:

  • 1 small ripe banana
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil

Preparation:

Puree the banana in a blender so that there are no lumps otherwise it is not gonna be easy to wash off. Then add honey and olive oil too it and mix well and the pack is ready.

Application:

With this one you need to focus on the length of your hair as that’s where the dryness, dullness and frizz is found. After applying, cover your hair with a shower cap or a plastic bag for better results. Leave for about an hour before washing it off with a shampoo and follow up with a moisturizing conditioner.
